Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
833 PM MDT Sat Jun 28 2025

.DISCUSSION...Near zonal flow aloft continues to bring warm
temperatures and breezy westerly winds to the region today. Haze
and localized smoke will linger in the Boise metro area this
evening, but overnight westerly winds should help clear the air.
Temperatures look to climb again tomorrow, with the hottest
temperatures on deck for next Tuesday as a ridge of high
pressure builds into the area. Afternoon showers and
thunderstorms remain a possibility each day beginning Tuesday,
as monsoonal moisture creeps in from southerly flow aloft. No
updates necessary to the forecast.

&&

.AVIATION...VFR. Mostly clear. Surface winds: W-NW 5-15 kt.
Evening gusts 15-25 kt in E-Central OR (near KBKE). Winds aloft at
10kft MSL: W-NW 15-25 kt.

KBOI...VFR under mostly clear skies. Vicinity wildfire smoke
may reduce visibility to near MVFR conditions through evening.
Surface winds: NW 5-10 kt this evening.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday night...Dry west to
northwest flow continues through Sunday before a ridge expands
over the area on Monday. A trough off the CA coast will pull
monsoon moisture from the Four Corners region into southwest ID
and southeast OR on Monday afternoon, mainly along the NV
border. A 15-20 percent chance of thunderstorms along the NV
border on Monday evening. This trough will also bring warmer
temperatures on Monday with temperatures warming to around 10
degrees above normal.

LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...A trough off the CA
coast will continue to usher in warm air and monsoon moisture
from the south and east. Temperatures will be the warmest on
Tuesday with lower valleys in the low 100s. Have issued a Heat
Advisory with good forecast continuity on this warming trend.
The trough off the CA coast will also keep a 15-20 percent
chance of thunderstorms over portions of the area through
Friday. Some shortwaves embedded in the westerly flow to the
north will enhance the thunderstorm threat on Wednesday
afternoon. Forecast confidence beyond Friday is low with the
handling of a compact upper level trough moving over southeast
OR and southwest ID on Friday and Saturday, which would bring
cooler and cloudier conditions than the forecast reflects.
